WHAT IS THE TABLE OF STYLES OF FRENCH FURNITURE?

It offers a condensed selection of the most typical characteristics of French furniture as it evolved through ten century of history.

The table of styles was selected by the French Institut Pédagogique National (IPN) and by the Belgian Department of Education Nationale. It has become the bible of millions of professionals and art lovers.

Some styles span two historical periods.

The Louis XVI style found its expression twenty years before the accession of that king. However, most styles came into their own with a time lag of several decennaries. The reason is that eight of those centuries diffused their inspirations no faster than a horse can go, and their progress materialized at that pace.
