THE A-Z OF COOKING VERBS is intended for cooks, pastry chefs and translators. It provides accurate information about cooking verbs a complement to THE A-Z OF FRENCH FOOD in which you will find the translation of all ingredient related terms (vegetables, fish etc.).  

 
 

 

The A-Z of COOKING VERBS contains

 

  • The 450 verbs most frequently used in cookery, pastry-making and translation of recipes in French and English   
  • The definitions in French and English are specific terms
  • The derivatives of verbs : adjectives, adverbs and nouns
  • Examples of translations in the context of cookery and patry-making recipes

The A-Z of COOKING VERBS was conceived to be used not only as a translation dictionary for recipes, but also as a training manual of culinary English. Cooks and pastry-makers can find the  fundamental vocabulary  necessary for correct translation of recipes ; teachers can find the subject matter for a number of thematic excercises ; students of hotel management can take it with them on foreign training courses.
 

For succinctness, information given in the first part (French-English) are not repeated in the second (English-French), and vice-versa.

The French-English part of the dictionary presents the 450 action verbs in cooking with:  

  1. Their translation into English ;  
  2. Defintions in both languages of verbs specifically professional  (slit, seal  etc.).

 

 

 

 

 The English-French part presents a complete monograph of each English verb with:
  1. Its different meanings in French ;  
  2. Its use in the context of recipes ;
  3. Its derivation (noun, adjective, adverb, etc.).  

It is in this second part that teachers can find subject matter for excercises on words derivatives in order to facilitate a thematic training of professional English.

 

The pocket dictionary of cookery verbs, The A-Z of COOKING VERBS completes the well-known gastronomic pocket dictionary, The A-Z of FRENCH FOOD.
